Tatsuo Kawai            Origin/Culture/Country: Japanese

Tatsuo Kawai: was a Japanese diplomat and author [1]. He was a leaning proponent of expansionism in Japan before World War II but later became a pacifist and was Japan's first Ambassador to Australia.Kawai was born in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. graduated from Tokyo Imperial University in 1915. He passed the diplomatic service examination in 1918 and was appointed vice-consul to Tsinan, China in 1919. He was promoted in 1921 and served as Secretary to the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C. and then Secretary to the Department of Commerce in 1921. He became the Japanese Consul to Vancouver in 1925 and Tsingtao in 1928. He became Chief of the Foreign Department of the Kwantung Leased Territory in 1930 and Secretary to the Japanese Advisor to the Lytton Commission of the League of Nations.

Tatsuo Nagai: was a writer of short stories and haiku poetry active in the Showa period Japan, known for his portrayals of city life. Nagai was also known as a haiku poet under the pen-name of "Tomonkyo".Due to this encouragement, he devoted his energies to writing, publishing Kuroi Gohan ("Black Rice") in Bungei Shunju, a monthly literary journal founded by Kikuchi Kan. In 1924, together with the literary critic Kobayashi Hideo, he later launched his own monthly literary magazine called Yamamayu.

His elder brother is former mayor of Omihachiman Gohei Kawabata.

Yamamoto Tatsuo: was a Japanese politician and Governor of the Bank of Japan from 1898 to 1903. He was also a member of the House of Peers and served as a cabinet minister in the pre-war Japanese government.Yamamoto was born as the younger son of a samurai family of Usuki Domain, present-day Usuki Oita Prefecture. After the Meiji restoration, at the age of 19 he moved to Osaka, and at the age of 22 to Tokyo, where he studied at a school run by the Mitsubishi company. He returned to the Osaka University of Commerce as a teacher, and at the young age of 26 was appointed its principal.
