He was the first Polish author to write exclusively in the Polish language, and is considered, with Biernat of Lublin and Jan Kochanowski, to be one of the founders of Polish literary language and literature.In 1543 Rej debuted as a writer, under the pen name "Ambrozy Korczbok Rozek," with the book, A Brief Discussion among Three Persons: a Lord, a Commune Chief and a Priest.

Mikolaj Sieniawski: was a notable Polish magnate, military commander and a prominent politician of his times. He built Brzezany Castle round which the modern town of Berezhany has developed. He is not to be confused with his descendant Mikolaj Hieronim Sieniawski, who was also a hetman in 1682 and 1683.Since 1539 Mikolaj Sieniawski served as a Field Hetman of the Crown and took part in most wars Poland was engaged in. Most notably he organized several successful raids to the area of the Ottoman Empire and Crimea. Between 1542 and 1553 he was also the voivode of Belz, and after that time he rose to be a voivod of the Ruthenian Voivodship, one of the richest and most populous regions of the Republic. In 1563 he was promoted to the rank of Grand Crown Hetman, that is the de facto commander in chief of the Polish army.

Mikolaj Habdank Kruszewski: was a Polish linguist, most significant as the co-inventor of the concept of phonemes, and relative of Anya Lucia Kruszewski. From 1883, he was a professor at Kazan University. His notable works include On Sound Alternation (1881) and Outline of Linguistic Science (1883). The former is actually the introduction to his master's thesis on morphophonemic alternation in Old Slavic (the section focusing on the theoretical background for the empirical work in the body of the thesis) and the latter is his doctoral thesis.
