Melchior Van Santvoort: was a Dutch seaman and surviving crew of the Liefde, the ship which transported William Adams to Japan in 1600.He was allowed to leave Japan with the Liefde's Captain Jacob Quaeckernaeck on 1604 on a Red Seal Ship provided by the daimyo of Hirado, with the destination of Patani in the Malay Peninsula.

Melchior De Polignac: was a French diplomat, Roman Catholic cardinal and neo-Latin poet. A younger son of Armand XVI, marquis de Polignac, he was born at Lavoûte-sur-Loire, Haute-Loire, Auvergne. At an early age he achieved distinction as a diplomat. In 1695 he was sent as ambassador to Poland, where he succeeded in bringing about the election of François-Louis de Bourbon, prince de Conti as successor to John Sobieski (1697). The subsequent failure of this intrigue led to his temporary disgrace, but in 1702 he was restored to favour, and in 1712 he was sent as the plenipotentiary of Louis XIV of France to the Congress of Utrecht.

Melchior Schildt: was a German composer and organist of the North German Organ School. He came from a long line of church musicians who had served the town of Hanover for over 125 years. He studied with Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck from 1609 to 1612, and in 1629 replaced his recently deceased father as organist at the Marktkirche in Hanover, where he remained until his death.

Eugène-Melchior was also a brother-in-law of Karl de Struve, Russian Ambassador to Japan, the United states, and The Netherlands.

Arne Melchior: is a retired Danish politician of Jewish descent and supporter of Jewish causes. He was member of Danish Parliament during 1973-75 and again 1977-2001. He was minister of traffic in the Conservative Poul Schlüter coalition government from 1982-86, and Minister for Communication and Tourism in the Social Democratic Poul Nyrup Rasmussen coalition government from 1993-94. He represented his party in parliament's Foreign Policy Committee 1994-2001, when he was forced to step down after having publicly defended Israel's use of moderate physical coercion on terror suspects. He later chose to leave the Centre Democratic Parliamentary group. The Centre Democrats lost their representation in parliament in the parliamentary election of 2001. The party was dissolved on 1 February 2008.

Bent Melchior: is a former chief rabbi of Denmark. From 1943 to 1945 Bent Melchior was a refugee in Sweden. At the age of 18 Melchior volunteered as a soldier in the Israeli War of Independence of 1948. After a period as a teacher in Copenhagen Melchior had his rabbinical education in London, and in 1963 he became rabbi at the synagogue in Copenhagen. When his father died in 1969, he succeeded him as chief rabbi for the Jewish community in Denmark. He has translated the Pentateuch, the Siddur (Jewish prayer book) and other books into Danish as well as writing several books including his biography. He is a prolific speaker and writer in the Danish community and media. Bent Melchior is married to Lilian; they have four sons, including Michael Melchior.
