Jirí Mahen: was a Czech novelist, playwright and essayist.His most important texts are the novels Kamarádi svobody (Friends of Freedom) and Mesíc (The Moon), a novel involving poetism, the theatre plays Mrtvé more (Dead sea), written in 1917, Jánošík (Janosik), in 1910, and Generace (Generation), in 1921. He was the author of many essay books of which Rybárská knížka (Fishermen's Book) written in 1921 is the most well-known.

Yusril Ihza Mahendra: is an Indonesian politician. Yusril was formerly the chairman of Crescent Star Party (PBB). Yusril Ihza Mahendra was born on 5th February 1956 to Idris Haji Sainal and Norsiha in Manggar, Bangka Belitung. After completing his primary and secondary education, Yusril left for Jakarta in 1976 to attend the University of Indonesia (UI). To compensate for living costs, Yusril had to lodge at various mosques in the city. In addition to that, Yusril had to find part time work to fund his studies.

Sunanda Mahendra: Ogha Tharanaya (The Crossing of the Torrential Stream) won the State Literary Award for the best Sinhala poetry collection, 2006. Many poems from the collection are now translated into English. He has won the State Literary Award for the best original play script (1993), the best research work (2002) and the best two Sinhala novels (1964 and 2002 respectively).
