Donald Alasdair Calum Maclennan: was a South African poet, critic, playwright and English professor.Maclennan's academic career included lecturing at Wits University and the University of Cape Town.[2] He taught in both South Africa and the United States.[3] He began teaching at Rhodes University in 1966, teaching English there for more than 40 years,[2] although he officially retired in 1994. In later years, he continued to teach at the university, giving weekly seminars for another decade.[4]

In the 2007 World Championships in Quebec City, MacLennan earned a Women's Trampoline place for Canada in the 2008 Olympic Games and came in third in the Individual trampoline event.

James Maclennan: was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and Puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Canada. Maclennan ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Ontario assembly in 1871. In 1874, he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the riding of Victoria North. However, the election was declared void. He won the by-election in 1874 but again the election was declared void. In 1905, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada and retired in 1909.
