Jerzy Kloczowski: Polish historian, professor at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, former member of the Polish Senate.During World War II, soldier of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa) and participant in the Warsaw Uprising, where he was seriously injured and lost his right hand. On leaving the military hospital in April 1945, he went to Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and then to Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, where he earned a degree and a Ph.D. (1950).Member of the anti-communist Solidarity movement. After the fall of communism in Poland, Senator and member of the Commission for Foreign Affairs at the Senate, and a representative of the Polish Parliament at the Council of Europe.

Jerzy Bajan: was a prominent Polish sports and military aviator, winner of the Challenge 1934 contest.He was born in Lwów (Lviv, at that time part of the Habsburg monarchy. After Poland had regained idependence in 1918, at the age of 17 he volunteered for the Polish Army. He was one of young Lwów defenders ("Lwów Eaglets"). Next he served in cavalry, and later in infantry, during the Polish-Soviet war of 1920. In 1922 he applied for the Polish Air Force.Despite problems with health, he completed Officer Flying School in Grudziadz and a higher pilotage course in Bydgoszcz and became a fighter pilot. In 1927 he served in 114th Fighter Escadre in Lida, from 1928 moved to Cracov and renamed the 122nd Fighter Escadre of the 2nd Fighter Regiment. In the beginning of 1930s he was promoted to Captain.
