Hughes Cleaver: was a Liberal party member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was born in Burlington, Ontario and became a lawyer by career. Cleaver left the House of Commons after completing his fourth term in office, the 21st Canadian Parliament, and did not seek another term in the 1953 election.

Phillip Joel Hughes: is an Australian cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batsman who is widely considered to be one of the most promising prospects for Australia's future. He made his Test debut at the age of 20 after just two seasons with New South Wales. He played his junior cricket for Macksville Cricket Club, where he excelled so quickly that he was playing A-Grade at the age of 12. At the age of 17, Hughes moved from Macksville to Sydney to play for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club in Sydney Grade Cricket while he attended Homebush Boys High. He scored 141* on his grade debut and enjoyed a solid 2006–07 season scoring 752 runs at an average of 35.81 with a highest score of 142*. He represented Australia at the Under-19s World Cup in 2007.He was and still is coached at Activate Cricket Centre in Mortlake and it has helped in excel in cricket. After consistently making runs at domestic level, Hughes was called up to replace Matthew Hayden on Australia's tour of South Africa in February and March 2009. He was selected to make his debut in the first Test match starting on 26 February 2009 at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg after making 53, then retiring, in Australia's tour match against the South African Board President's XI. Hughes was called up to the Test squad for the tour of New Zealand in March 2010.

As a sportsman, Hughes found most success in rugby league, playing for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs as well as representing his state at the age of 19. Hughes appeared in 20 first-class and three List A games, all for New South Wales between the 1975-76 and 1978-79 seasons. He never produced a spectacular batting performance, his top score being the 65 he hit against Victoria at the MCG in his final season.

Hughes was captain-coach of North Perth Cricket Club for the 1975–76 season. Against the touring Pakistan team in December 1976, Hughes made 137 runs from only 167 balls, placing his name in front of the national selectors. World Series Cricket (WSC) divided the Australian team into two camps; those that had signed lucrative contracts with Kerry Packer's rebel group and those, like Hughes, who had remained with the establishment Australian Cricket Board (ACB).
