Hendrik Bulthuis: was a Dutchman, customs official, author, and translator of more than thirty works. One of his novels, Idoj de Orfejo (Children of Orpheus) is listed in William Auld's Basic Esperanto Reading List.In 1901 D. Uitterdijk sent him a textbook of Esperanto, after which he became an Esperantist. He engaged in much correspondence with Esperantists of other countries, did much Esperanto publicity, especially in The Hague, taught courses, and served as the secretary of the examinations committee from its establishment until the present. From 1910 on L. K. In latter years he worked only for Esperanto; as a novelist (of works originally in Esperanto), a translator and author of small booklets, B. has been one of the most enduring workers in Esperanto.

He drowned while escaping to Great Britain, when the ship he was on was torpedoed by a German submarine.His poetry is vitalistic and expressionistic, and (fear of) death, as a metaphor for defeat in life, is a recurring theme. His "Herinnering aan Holland" (Remembrance of Holland): "Denkend aan Holland zie ik breede rivieren traag door oneindig laagland gaan," Thinking about Holland, I see broad rivers slowly moving through endless lowlands. In 2000, the Dutch people chose this as the "Dutch Poem of the Century."[1]

Hendrik Laurenszoon Spiegel: was one of the most important writers and thinkers of the Amsterdam of the second half of the sixteenth century.He is seen as a forerunner to the Golden Age of Vondel, Hooft and Huygens. He is the strongest candidate for the unknown author of the first book on Dutch grammar, the Twe-spraack vande Nederduitsche letterkunst, which appeared in 1584. (In the past it was thought to be Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert.)

Hendrik Van Heuraet: was a Dutch mathematician. He was noted as one of the founders of the integral. From [1653 he studied at Leiden University where he interacted with Frans van Schooten, Johannes Hudde, and Christiaan Huygens. In 1658 he and Hudde left for Saumur in France. He returned to Leiden the next year as a physician. After this his trail is lost.

Hendrik Douwe Kloosterman: was a Dutch mathematician,[1] known best for introducing Kloosterman sums.[2]After completing his master's degree in Leiden from 1918-1922 he studied in Copenhagen with Harald Bohr and in Oxford with G. H. Hardy. In 1924 he received his PhD in Leiden under supervision of J. C. Kluyver. From 1926 to 1928 he studied in Göttingen and Hamburg, and he was assistant in Münster from 1928-1930. Kloosterman was appointed lector (associate professorship) in Leiden in 1930 and full professor in 1947.[2] In 1950 he was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.[citation needed]
