Nicolae Filimon: was a Wallachian Romanian novelist and short-story writer, remembered as the author of the very first Realist novel in Romanian literature, Ciocoii vechi si noi ("The Old and the New Boyars"), which was centered on the self-seeking figure of Dinu Paturica (who drew comparisons with Stendhal's Julien Sorel). He was also a noted travel writer, folklorist, musician, and the very first musical critic in his country.

Timoleon Filimon: was a journalist, politician, a thinker of the time and student of Vasilias Georgiou. He was the son of Ioannis Filimonos. He was born in 1833 in Nafplio (Nauplion). He studied law at the university of Athens. From a younger age he was educated as a journalist in the paper Aion which was run by his father and from 1839 to 1857 he was a journalist there. In 1857, he was jailed for three months for offending King Otto I.
