Cristian Gamboa Luna: is a Costa Rican footballer. He played most recently for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, but was released at the end of the last season. Fernández played for Costa Rica in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Canada, where he made two appearances for the Ticos.

Alfonso Quesada: is a Costa Rican soccer player who plays for Brujas FC. He is considered to be one of the most secure and strong young midfielders in CONCACAF. With Saprissa he has already won two national championships as well as a UNCAF Cup title and a CONCACAF Champions Cup title. He was part of the Costa Rican national team that played in the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship held in Trinidad and Tobago. He also played the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship Toyota Cup, where Saprissa finished third behind São Paulo Futebol Clube and Liverpool F.C.

Gilberto Fernández: was the Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami. He was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop of Miami and the Titular Bishop of Hirina on June 23, 1997, and was ordained a Bishop on September 3, 1997. His Principal Consecrator was the then- Archbishop of Miami, John Clement Favalora. His Co-Consecrators were Archbishop Edward Anthony McCarthy and Auxiliary Bishop Agustin Roman, all of Miami. Auxiliary Bishop Fernández resigned as Auxiliary Bishop because of health reasons on December 10, 2002. At the time, he did not disclose what they were, but asked the people of South Florida "to help me with your prayers, and I will help you also with mine." At the time of his death, news reports said he had suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Auxiliary Bishop Fernández, 76, died, after a long illness, on Friday, September 30, 2011. The current Archbishop of Miami, Thomas G. Wenski, celebrated a Funeral Mass on Monday, October 3, 2011 for him. Those who worked with the late Bishop said they will remember him as being humble, gentle and "a true Christian gentleman." Archbishop Wenski called him his "twin," referring to the fact that they were ordained together as Auxiliary Bishops of Miami on September 3, 1997, by the now-retired Archbishop Favalora.

Luis Amado-Blanco Fernandez: was a distinguished journalist and Ambassador from Cuba to Portugal and then to the Holy See from 1961–1975. Fernandez was born in Riberas de Pravia, Asturias, Spain. He initially travelled to Cuba as a correspondent for El Heraldo de Madrid to report on the fall of Gerardo Machado. He permanently moved in 1936 and lead an active cultural life. He received and the Talia Prize for his direction of La Dama de Alba by Alejandro Casona as well as the Justo de Lara Prize. In 1951, he received the Premio Nacional for the story Sola. Among his more famous novels is Ciudad Rebelde. He was the first Cuban Revolutionary Government Ambassador to Portugal, and from 1961 he was the Cuban Ambassador to the Holy See, where he was the dean of the diplomatic corps. He died in Rome, Italy.
