When in 1849 M. de Falloux became minister of public worship he summoned Nicolas to assist him as head of the department for the administration of the temporal interests of ecclesiastical districts. He held this office until 1854 when he became general inspector of libraries. In 1860 he was appointed judge of the tribunal of the Seine and finally councillor at the Paris court of appeals. He died at Versailles.

Auguste Haouisée: was a French prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, who served as Bishop of Shanghai from 1946 until his death, having previously served as its Apostolic Vicar. On June 25, 1928, Haouisée was appointed Coadjutor Apostolic Vicar of Nanking, and Titular Bishop of Cercina on July 2 of that same year. He received his episcopal consecration on the following October 3 from Bishop Henry Lécroart, SJ, with Bishops Adéodat-Roch Wittner, OFM, and André-François Defebvre, CM, serving as co-consecrators. Haouisée succeeded his fellow Jesuit, the late Próspero París, as Apostolic Vicar of Nanking on May 13, 1931.

Auguste Nicholas Caïn: was a noted French sculptor in the Animaliers school, known for his portrayals of wild and domesticated animals. Caïn was born in Paris, and studied under Rude, Guionnet, and Pierre-Jules Mêne (whose daughter he married in 1852). His first exhibit in the Salon of 1846 was a wax model of a linnet defending her nest from a rat, later cast in bronze and shown at the 1855 Salon. Between 1846-1888, Caïn exhibited 38 models at the Salon.
