Amaro Macedo Origin/Culture/Country: South America
Amaro Macedo: is the best-known collector of the Brazilian Cerrado plant species of the XX century. He lives in Ituiutaba, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He started his collection in 1943 when he was a teacher of Natural Sciences in the Instituto Marden, Ituiutaba. He collected most of his plant material in the cerrado vegetation of the States of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Maranhão and Pará. He collected also in the regions of the villages of Natividade, Porto Nacional and Filadelfia, at the time part of the State of Goiás, although now part of the state of Tocantins. Plant specimens from his collection are in several herbaria in Brazil and outside. Between 1943 and 2007 he collected 6008 plant specimens, several of them are considered new species and some were dedicated to him by famous Botanists.

Mariano Rodrigues Amaro: former Portuguese footballer who played midfielder for Belenenses and the Portugal national team.Amaro made his international debut for Portugal against Spain, 26 November 1937 in a 1-2 defeat in Vigo. He totally gained 19 caps in the years 1937-1947.
Blanquita Amaro Origin/Culture/Country: Jamaican
Blanquita Amaro: was a Cuban film actress of the 1940s and early 1950s who starred in the "golden age" of Argentina cinema. She appeared in some 17 films between 1939 and 1954 appearing often in films involving her native Cuba in co-production with Argentina such as A La Habana me voy (I'm Coming to Havana), working under director Luis Bayón Herrera. She also appeared in films such as Buenos Aires a la vista in 1950 though which on the contrary had strong Argentine themes in it. In Miami in 1980, she made her last film, How Hot Miami Is! with Olga Guillot, Raymundo Hidalgo-Gato and Pedro Romàn. She also won plaudits for her performance in the play Stolen Lives, and in the comedy The Close Friends, with Griselda Nogueras and Néstor Cabell.

Santos Amaro: was a Cuban athlete competing in Cuban and Mexican professional baseball. One of the most aggressive players in Cuban baseball, Amaro had thousands of admirers both in Cuba and Mexico. Amaro initially played at the catcher position, which was difficult for him because of his height (1.92 m). He then played third base, but his best position was right field, where he made good use of a strong throwing arm. He was one of the most consistent hitters that have passed through the Mexican League, playing for seventeen seasons and batting over .300 in eleven of them. When he hung up his spikes in 1955, he retired with a .314 overall average with 1,339 hits. In 1951, he replaced Martin Dihigo as manager of the Veracruz Eagle, a team he led to the championship in 1952 and 1961.

Niurka Montalvo Amaro: is a former Cuban and Spanish athlete who specialised in the long jump and triple jump events. Her greatest achievement came in 1999, when she became world champion with a personal best jump of 7.06 metres. She is now the autonomous secretary of sport for the Autonomous government of Valencia.
