Sergio Omar Almirón: a retired Argentine footballer striker.In his career (1978–1993) he was played for Newell's Old Boys, Tours FC (France), UANL Tigres (Mexico), Estudiantes Centra Córdoba and Talleres de Córdoba.Almirón was in the Argentina squad that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup, though he didn't play any games during that tournament. Despite playing as a striker Almirón was allocated the number 1 shirt for the 1986 tournament, traditionally reserved for goalkeepers.[1] This was due to Argentina's policy of the time of numbering their squad alphabetically.

In 1997 July 26 he made his Primera Division de Mexico debut with Atlas with a 2-1 victory over Puebla. In the season of the Clausura 2006 he helped Querétaro pass to the Primera División of Mexico but then demoted back to the Segunda Division (now called Liga de Ascenso) in Clausura 2007. In 2008 he was named player-coach of Dorados.

He is a central midfielder known for his passing and powerful shot.He then loaned to Verona in 2003. In summer 2004, Empoli bought 50% of player rights,[1] and finally bought all from Udinese in June, 2006.He went on loan at Serie A side ACF Fiorentina for the 2008-09 season; the Italian team had an option to buy him outright at the end of the year [3], but, at the end of the season, Fiorentina were not interested in the purchase, meaning in June he returned to Juventus. On 20 August 2009 he moved to Bari on loan.[4]
