His greatest hits are "The Scent of Cyclamen" (, Shikuramen no Kaori?) and "You are More Beautiful than a Rose" (, Kimi wa Bara Yori Utsukushii?). He attended Meiji University but left before graduating. Kobayashi made his debut in 1959 in the film Nangoku Tosa o Ato ni Shite (A Farewell to Southern Tosa). He also starred in the TV series "Wataridori" ("Rambler") and "Senpuji" ("Whirlwind Child"). Kobayashi, along with Yujiro Ishihara and others, were the responsible for Nikkatsu Corporation's golden age.

League side Gamba Osaka.[1] He gained his first cap for Japan when national coach Zico played him on October 8, 2003 in a friendly against Tunisia. He was rated highly by Zico who made him the first-choice right full-back. He was a member of the Japan team who won the 2004 Asian Cup in China.[2] In a 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup against Brazil, his goal was disallowed by a controversial offside decision.[3] His first goal for the country finally came on August 17, 2005 in a World Cup qualifier against Iran.

(current Shonan Bellmare) playing in the Japan Soccer League division 1. His first J. League match was against Verdy Kawasaki on March 12, 1993. His international debut came on September 27, 1993 against Australia.He moved to Kashima Antlers in 2000. The presence of Jorginho at Kashima propelled his decision to move as he aspired to learn the trade under the Brazilian international full back.
