Xu Dishan: was a native Fujian Province.After obtaining a BA degree from the Yenching University, he continued his studies at Columbia University and Oxford University. He is remembered as an educationalist and professor at Yenching University, Peking University and Tsinghua University. His association with Hong Kong began in 1936 when he was appointed by Hong Kong University to be dean of the department of Chinese literature. Soon after the appointment, he applied himself to reformation of th education system.

Xu Guangqi: was a Chinese bureaucrat, agricultural scientist, astronomer, and mathematician in the Ming Dynasty. Xu was a colleague and collaborator of the Italian Jesuits Matteo Ricci and Sabatino de Ursis and they translated several classic Western texts into Chinese, including part of Euclid's Elements. He was also the author of the Nong Zheng Quan Shu, one of the first comprehensive treatises on the subject of agriculture.
