She was a Liberal member of the National Assembly of Quebec from 1985 to 1994 and was a minister in the governments of Robert Bourassa and Daniel Johnson.Trépanier was elected to the Quebec legislature in the 1985 provincial election, defeating Parti Québécois (PQ) incumbent Huguette Lachapelle in the Montreal division of Dorion. The Liberal Party won a majority government in this election, and Trépanier entered the legislature as a backbench supporter of Robert Bourassa's administration. From December 13, 1985, to March 3, 1989, she was the parliamentary assistant to the minister of municipal affairs.

They married after a whirlwind 42 day romance. Violette was 19, Etienne was 31. Shortly after the birth of their only child, Tania, Etienne was killed, suffering chest wounds at the Battle of El Alamein in October 1942. Etienne had never seen his daughter. It was Etienne's death that made Violette, having already joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1941, decide to offer her services to the Special Operations Executive (SOE).

Her family relocated to Las Vegas when she was 12 years old; Cyndy took to playing casino poker once she reached the legal age. She spent a short time as a casino employee, working as a blackjack and poker dealer. 1984, Cyndy cashed in a poker tournament in Lake Tahoe and used the proceeds to launch a professional poker career. She later took the top prize of $74,000 at a seven-card stud tournament at the Golden Nugget; at the time this was the biggest tournament prize ever won by a woman. Shortly thereafter, she married her second husband, and took a two year hiatus from poker.
