Marília Pêra: an award-winning Brazilian actress.In 1982 she became the first South American ever honored in North America with a Best Actress Prize, for Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco, by the National Society of Film Critics Awards [3]. Regarded by the critics and by the public as the most accomplished and versatile Brazilian actress after Pixote. She's also hailed as "one of the decade's (1980s) ten best actresses" by Pauline Kael [4].After Pixote (1981), Bar Esperança (1983) and Tieta do Agreste (1996), became the most awarded Brazilian actress ever.In 1989 she made public her support to the right-wing presidential candidate Fernando Collor de Mello. This led to her being criticized by her fellow actors and accused of "betrayal", with her plays being picketed by activists and her former husband, Nelson Motta, prohibiting her from involving their two children with Collor.

Her works have been included in the festivals and special screenings of MoMA – Museum of Modern Art (USA), It’s All True (Brazil), Rotterdam IFF (Netherlands), Bafici (Argentina), Guadalajara IFF (Mexico), Doclisboa (Portugal), among others. Since 2003 she is a member of Teia, along with Clarissa Campolina, Helvécio Marins Jr., Leonardo Barcelos, Pablo Lobato and Sérgio Borges. The group founded a center for audiovisual production and research where they work collaboratively, combining the individual production with projects that involve the whole team and invited professionals.
