Laurence Collinson: was a British and Australian playwright, actor, poet, journalist, and secondary school teacher.Collinson's family moved to Australia in 1930. While still at Brisbane State High School, Collinson and fellow students Barrie Reid and Cecel Knopke started the magazine Barjai: A Meeting Place for Youth, which from 1943-44 published the literary avant-garde in Adelaide and Melbourne. [2] He received a secondary teaching diploma from Merrer House in Melbourne and from 1955 to 1961 taught mathematics and English in various Melbourne secondary schools. From 1961 to 1964, Collinson worked as the editor of The Educational Magazine. [3] In 1964, Collinson retuned to England. He died in London November 10, 1986 [4]

Laurence 'Larry' Osmaston Cordner: was an Australian sportsman who played first-class cricket for Victoria and Australian rules football in the VFL with Hawthorn. Cordner made just one VFL appearance for Hawthorn, against Collingwoood at Glenferrie Oval during the 1933 season. His cousins were more successful, two of them Denis and Don, are members of the Melbourne Football Club Team of the Century. The first of Cordner's three first-class cricket matches came in the Sheffield Shield competition of 1930/31 against South Australia, with his only notable contribution being the wicket of Bert Tobin. Four weeks later, at the MCG, he was part of the Victorian team which played a tour match with the West Indians. He took five wickets in the match, including Lionel Birkett twice and a prized victim in George Headley. Cordner then saved the game for Victoria with the bat by making 30 not out in the fourth innings as Victoria hung on with nine wickets down. His final match came in 1934 against Western Australia.

A lawyer, he ran unsuccessfully as the Liberal candidate for the Canadian House of Commons for the electoral district of Colchester in the 1882 federal election. He was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for Colchester in 1886 and was re-elected in 1890, 1894, 1897 and 1901. A Nova Scotia Liberal, he was Speaker of the House of Assembly from 1895 to 1901 and from 1903 to 1904. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1904 federal election. He resigned in 1907 when he was appointed a judge.
