Narayan Singh Manaklao: a noted social worker of India and a member of the Rajya Sabha, by nomination. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award. He was born in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan in 1942.He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 by the Government of India in recognition of dedicated services rendered in helping to reduce the anti-social consumption of opium by organizing systematic and scientific de-addiction programmes, which have benefited thousands of rural and urban men, women and children drawn from all strata of society since 1980. He established Sucheta Kriplani Shiksha Niketan, a unique residential Senior Secondary School to impart free and quality education to the physically disabled children in 1991.

As the general secretary of the Shanti Sena, Narayan recruited and trained peace volunteers throughout the country who intervened during ethnic conflicts and helped establish harmony among conflicting communities.

In 1929, he took admission to the Holkar College, Indore and in 1933, he passed his B.A. examination from Agra Univerisity. In 1934, he passed his Diploma in Painting from the State School of Art, Indore.In 1945 he went to Shantiniketan and worked with Nandalal Bose, Ramkinkar Baij, and Binode Behari Mukherjee. In 1950 he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara as the first Reader and Head of the Department of Painting. Later he became the Dean of the Faculty. He left the University in 1966. .
