Her father was not pleased with this career path and did not speak to her for years until after she married Brandt in 1997.Her first album, Johnny Joker, ushered in her first widespread acclaim. Soon Shetty became known as a star in the Indian pop scene, performing songs for films and appearing on television programs such as MTV India. Adding to this success, her first two albums sold 1.5 million copies[citation needed].

She played the role of Prerna in Balaji Telefilms's popular soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay aired on an Indian television channel STAR Plus, for which she has received a few awards too. She has done several commercial advertisements, dance shows, plays and cameos in other Indian soaps. She is now also growing as a bhojpuri film actress
