Asaf Ali            Origin/Culture/Country: Indian

Asaf Ali: was an Indian independence fighter and noted Indian lawyer. He was the first ambassador from India to the United States. He also worked as the governor of Orissa.Educated in the St. Stephen's College, Delhi and called to bar from Lincoln's Inn in England, he entered the Indian independence movement and was imprisoned many times. In 1928, he married Aruna Ganguli, a marriage that raised eyebrows on the grounds of religion (Asaf Ali was a Muslim while Aruna was a Hindu) and age difference (Aruna was 22 years junior to him). He was elected in 1935 as a member of the Central Legislative Assembly from Delhi representing the Muslim Nationalist Party. He was re-elected as a Congress candidate against a Muslim League candidate. He worked as Deputy Leader of the Congress Party in the Assembly. In 1945, Ali came to be the convenor of the INA defence team established by the Congress for the defence of the officers of the INA charged with treason later in November 1945.

Asaf Durakovic: is a Croatian physician and expert in nuclear medicine and depleted uranium. He is also known for his poetry and verse. Durakovic was born in Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina and educated at the University of Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia where he earned both master's and doctoral degrees. During this time he worked at the Ruder Boškovic Institute. Afterwards he continued with post-doctoral work at Oxford University. In 1968 he immigrated to Canada, where he attended McMaster University in Hamilton. He worked at the University of Toronto, the University of Washington, and University Of Rochester (UofR). He has been associated with the Croatian Literary Journal. Durakovic is the one of the co-founders of Croatian Islamic Centre in Etobicoke, Toronto. Construction was over on June 23, 1973. Its mosque is the oldest in Toronto. The minaret is Osmani-style and its the oldest minaret in Ontario. In 1990, Durakovic was one of the founders of the Croatian Muslim Democratic Party, formed in Zagreb. Durakovic is also a founder and Medical Research Director of the Toronto-based Uranium Medical Research Centre. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Croatian Medical Journal and also a contributor.
