Spalding Rockwell Gray: was an American actor, screenwriter, performance artist, and playwright. Gray also became famous for writing the play Swimming to Cambodia (1985) which was adapted into a film in 1987.

Douglas Alexander Spalding            Origin/Culture/Country: English

Douglas Alexander Spalding: was an English biologist. He was born in Islington in London in 1841, and began life as a manual laborer. Subsequently he lived in Scotland, near Aberdeen; the philosopher Alexander Bain persuaded the University of Aberdeen to allow him to attend courses without charge. He studied philosophy and literature, but after a year left for London. He trained as a lawyer, but also contracted tuberculosis. He travelled in Europe in hopes of finding a cure, and in Avignon met John Stuart Mill and through him Viscount Amberley (son of the former British Prime Minister Lord John Russell, by then 1st Earl Russell). He became tutor to Viscount Amberley's children, including perhaps the very young Bertrand Russell, and also carried on an intermittent affair with Viscountess Amberley. After the viscount's death in 1876, Spalding returned to the continent and remained there until his death the following year.

Derek Spalding: is a former soccer player, who played as a defender. Spalding played for Hibernian in the Scottish Football League until he emigrated to the United States in 1977. He then played seven seasons in the North American Soccer League and at least two in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned one cap with the U.S. national team, in 1982. Spalding earned one cap with the U.S. national team in a 2-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago on March 21, 1982. Spalding served as an assistant coach with the Chicago Power of the National Professional Soccer League.

Earl Spalding: is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne and Carlton in the Victorian Football League/Australian Football League. Spalding grew up in Perth, Western Australia, where he attended Wesley College. His father, George Spalding was a well-known WAFL player with the Perth Football Club. Spalding is currently working with the Fremantle Football Club as an assistant coach.

Johann Joachim Spalding: was a German Protestant theologian and philosopher of Scottish ancestry who was born in Tribsees, Western Pomerania. He was the father of Georg Ludwig Spalding (1762–1811), who was a professor at Grauen Kloster in Berlin. He studied philosophy and theology at the Universities of Rostock and Greifswald, and afterwards worked as an auxiliary preacher in his hometown. In 1755 he became a pastor in Lassan, and two years later served as a minister in the town of Barth.
