Hartmann Schedel: was a German physician, humanist and historian, one of the first cartographers to make use of the printing press. He was born in Nuremberg. Matheolus Perusinus served as his tutor.Schedel is best known for his writing the text for the Nuremberg Chronicle, known as Schedelsche Weltchronik (English translation: Schedel's World Chronicle'), published in 1493 in Nuremberg. This was probably a commission from Anton Koberger, as much of the point of the work was its lavish illustrations. The Chronicle is therefore an incunabulum. Many of the maps in his Nuremberg Chronicle illustrated cities and countries for the first time ever, because not too much was known till then. Cities were featured in the chronicle as the material was ready and Cracow, Lübeck, Nissa or Neyß are described towards the end.

Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann: was a Danish composer. In 1836, he made his first study tour to Germany and France, where he made the acquaintance of such significant musical figures as Frédéric Chopin, Gioachino Rossini, Luigi Cherubini, and Louis Spohr. Spohr and the Danish composer Christoph Ernst Friedrich Weyse were Hartmann's most important mentors. Further journeys to Germany followed in the next few years, during which he also founded the Danish Musical Association in 1836, remaining its chairman until the end of his life. In 1843, he transferred from the Garnisons Kirke to play the organ for the Vor Frue Kirke, and became the director of the Student Choral Association. He also held both these posts until his death. In 1867, after having taught at the Conservatory of Giuseppe Siboni since 1827, Hartmann helped co-establish and direct the Copenhagen Conservatory with Niels Gade and Holger Simon Paulli. He was the director of the Copenhagen Musical Society briefly in 1890 following the death of Gade. During his lifetime, Hartmann occupied a central place in Danish musical life and was considered by many to be an absolute authority on musical matters.

Emma Hartmann: was a Danish composer who used the pseudonym Frederick H. Palmer to publish music. She was born in Copenhagen, the daughter of J.Fr. Zinn, and studied singing and piano with composer Andreas Peter Berggreen. She married composer J.P.E. Hartmann in 1829 and became the mother of ten children. Her song Emil Hartmann was also a composer, and her daughter Emma Sophie married Danish composer Niels W. Gade. Hartmann's first published composition was music for a Student Association dance in February 1841, and her pseudonym was revealed in 1869 when the Manual of anonymity and pseudonyms in Danish literature was published. She died in Copanhagen at age 44.

Emil Hartmann: was a Danish composer, the eldest son of Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann and brother-in-law to Niels Gade and August Winding. His son Oluf Hartmann was a painter. He got his first education from his father Johan Peter Emilius and brother-in-law Niels Gade. Already in early age, he began to compose. Then he studied at the University of Copenhagen. In 1858, he performed his first major work, when he and August Winding were given the task to compose music for August Bournonville's ballet Fjeldstuen. In 1859, he received scholarship and went on study tour to Germany, where he spent most time in Leipzig. After returning to Denmark, from 1861, he got a position of organist at the St. Johan Church in Copenhagen and from 1871 at the Christiansborg Palace Chapel.
