James Grover Thurber: was an American humorist and cartoonist. Thurber was best known for his contributions (both cartoons and short stories) to The New Yorker magazine.From 1918 to 1920, at the close of World War I, Thurber worked as a code clerk for the Department of State, first in Washington, D.C., and then at the American Embassy in Paris, France. After this Thurber returned to Columbus, where he began his writing career as a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch from 1921 to 1924. During part of this time, he reviewed current books, films, and plays in a weekly column called "Credos and Curios," a title that later would be given to a posthumous collection of his work. Thurber also returned to Paris in this period, where he wrote for the Chicago Tribune and other newspapers.[3]

Alexandre Thurber: was an industrialist and political figure in Quebec. He represented Chambly in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1923 to 1931 and from 1935 to 1936 as a Liberal. He was born in Montreal, the son of Alexandre Thurber and Émiline Davignon who was the daughter of Pierre Davignon. Thurber was educated at the Collège de Longueuil. He worked as a clerk for fifteen years and then became an iron manufacturer at Longueuil. In 1894, he married Rose-Anne Larocque. Thurber served as mayor of Longueuil from 1915 to 1925. He did not run for reelection to the assembly in 1931 and was defeated by Hortensius Béïque when he ran again in 1936. Thurber died in Montreal at the age of 87.
