John Thomas Tom Marshall: is a former basketball player and coach. He was a star at Western Kentucky University in the 1950s, where he was a 2-time All-American. A 6'4" forward, he was drafted by the Rochester Royals with the 7th pick of the 1954 NBA Draft. After a promising rookie season, he was drafted into the Army and missed the 1955-56 season. In a four-year NBA career, he played for the Royals (in both Rochester and Cincinnati), as well as for the Detroit Pistons. In his final year as a player (1958-59) he served as a player-coach; then coached the Cincinnati Royals for one additional season (1959-60) after retiring from playing. The Royals would eventually become the Sacramento Kings many years after his retirement.

Marshall: Marshall was the original host of the popular nightly radio drama The CBS Radio Mystery Theater (or CBSRMT), which ran on CBS radio affiliate stations across the United States between 1974 and 1982. CBSRMT was an ambitious and sustained attempt to revive the great drama of old-time radio. Each episode began with the ominous sound of a creaking door, slowly opening to invite listeners in for the evening's adventure. At the end of each show, the door would swing shut, with Marshall signing off, "Until next time, pleasant... dre-e-eams?" Marshall hosted the program for the first seven years. Failing health forced his departure in 1981, and he was replaced by actress Tammy Grimes for the final season.

His company, Marshall Amplification continues to produce amplifiers with an iconic status.From 1960, Marshall owned a moderately successful music store in Hanwell and was known to supplement this income by teaching drums. His many guitar playing customers (including Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Sullivan and Pete Townshend) spoke of the need for a particular kind of amplifier and Marshall saw the opportunity. He recruited an 18-year-old electronics apprentice, Dudley Craven, who was previously working for EMI and, with his help, began producing prototype amplifiers, resulting in the foundation of Marshall Amplification, in 1962.
