According to the online biography of Gatch at the Phillips Collection website, Gatch exhibited in the Venice Biennials of 1950 and 1956, and he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1957. Although he is best known for his nature-inspired abstract works, he also worked for a time as a muralist for the WPA. As a result, her surviving body of work is relatively small. Her catalogue raisonné, published in 1995 by Abrams, lists only 599 known pieces. Lee played in the NCAA, NBA, and National Superior Basketball League of Puerto Rico (BSN). He played for the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers while in the NBA. Lee was a member of the Puerto Rican national basketball team, including the 1976 Puerto Rican squad that came close to defeating the United States. Most notably, Lee was selected as the Most Outstanding Player at the 1977 Final Four where he led the Marquette Warriors to the school's first national championship.

Vanderbilt reached the NCAA Mideast Regional Finals, where they lost to Michigan, 87-85. During his senior season (1965-66), he earned All-American honors and the SEC Player of the Year Award. Sportswriter Howell Pesier described him as "the greatest player in Vanderbilt history".[1] After four years at Vanderbilt, he was selected by the San Francisco Warriors with the third pick of the 1966 NBA Draft.
