Lee Krasner: was an influential abstract expressionist painter in the second half of the 20th century. In 1945, Krasner married artist Jackson Pollock, who was also influential in the Abstract Expressionism movement.She would often cut apart her own drawings and paintings to create collages and sometimes revised or discarded whole series. As a result, her surviving body of work is relatively small. Her catalogue raisonné, published in 1995 by Abrams, lists only 599 known pieces. She was rigorously self-critical, and her critical eye is believed to have been important to Pollock's work.

She received a Fulbright scholarship to study in Rome in 1957-1958 and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award in 1959. From the 1970s until 1991 she taught at Brooklyn College.She challenged artistic conventions of both materials and presentation by creating sculpture that hung on the wall like a painting. She used industrial and found materials including screen, pipe, burlap, canvas and wire. Her best constructions are at once mechanistic and organic, abstract but evocative of the brutality of war.

Born in Fresno, California, Cronbach received a bachelor's degree from Fresno State College and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1940, he received a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Chicago. After teaching mathematics and chemistry at Fresno High School, Cronbach took faculty positions at the State College of Washington, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois, finally settling at Stanford University in 1964. Cronbach was the president of the American Psychological Association, president of the American Educational Research Association, and Vida Jacks Professor of Education at Stanford University.
