John arrived in the United States in 1990, when he enrolled at Oklahoma State University. He earned an MBA from Seattle University. John was a high school track star for the 200 meter sprints to 5000 meter races. He had a stint as a door to door salesman selling Bibles. In November 2004 he won the inaugural Professional Poker Tour event at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

Although born in Bethlehm, PA he was raised and learned the sport of tennis in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania[1]. Johnson attended Fairview High School in Erie, Pennsylvania and won the PIAA State Singles Championship in 1984. During his career, he won the Wimbledon men's doubles title in 2001 (partnering Jared Palmer), and the Wimbledon mixed doubles title in 2000 (partnering Kimberly Po).

With his thick, round-framed glasses, Johnson was the most recognizable figure in American architecture for decades.In 1930, he founded the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA and later (1978), as a trustee, he was awarded an American Institute of Architects Gold Medal and the first Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 1979. He was a student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. When Johnson died in January 2005, he was survived by his long-time life partner, David Whitney, who died only a few months later, on June 12, 2005.

Ray Edward Johnson: was a seminal figure of the Pop Art movement. Primarily a collage artist, Johnson was also an early performance and conceptual artist. Once called “New York’s most famous unknown artist", he is considered the “Founding Father of Mail Art" and pioneered the incorporation and use of language in the visual arts.In the late 1950s, Johnson began exploring the possibilities of Mail Art. He developed a network of friends, acquaintances and strangers to whom he sent highly conceptual images and texts. Like Marcel Duchamp, Johnson was one of the first artists to incorporate instructions for active participation in his artwork, as he encouraged the recipients to “add to” his work or to “please send to…” or to “return to Ray Johnson.” In 1962, Johnson founded the "New York Correspondance (sic) School," a name invented by Ed Plunkett[1] and used by Johnson for his international network of Mail Art participants he spawned by mailing an enormous amount of material
