Frédéric Dorion: was a Quebec politician and chief justice. He led a group of Independent MPs in the Canadian House of Commons who were opposed to the implementation of conscription during World War II. Dorion announced he was joining the Progressive Conservative party on May 4, 1949, as that year's election campaign opened and led the party's campaign in the Quebec City area. He was defeated in the 1949 election and again in the 1953 election running both times as a Progressive Conservative.

Jean-Baptiste-Éric Dorion: was a journalist and political figure in Canada East.In 1854, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Drummond and Athabaska. He opposed the bill to abolish seigneurial tenure because he felt it was unfair to settlers. He was defeated in the 1857 election, but reelected in 1861 and 1863. In 1862, he founded another newspaper, Le Défricheur. He opposed Confederation, because he thought that the provinces would be dominated by the federal government.

Sir Antoine-Aimé Dorion: was a French Canadian politician and jurist.In 1858 Dorion served as Co-Premier of the Province of Canada with Clear Grit leader George Brown (Canadian politician) but the government quickly fell. From 1863 to 1864 Dorion again served as Co-Premier, this time with John Sandfield Macdonald as well as taking the position of Attorney-General but refused to participate in the Great Coalition government formed in 1864 by Brown, John A. Macdonald and George-Étienne Cartier. Following the Quebec Conference of 1864 he denounced the proposed Canadian Confederation and led the opposition in Lower Canada to the project. He was also the leader of the Parti Rouge and thought the provinces would lose their power if Confederation was put into action. He disapproved that the colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island were uniting under a central government.
