Denis E. Cosgrove: was an Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was a cultural geographer, whose work focused upon the concepts of landscape and representations. He was a leading proponent of the 'new cultural geography' which encouraged a focus upon the complex interconnections between the many different aspects of landscapes and the world.Cosgrove's research interests evolved from a focus on the meanings of landscape in human and cultural geography, especially in Western Europe since the fifteenth century, to a broader concern with the role of spatial images and representations in the making and communicating of knowledge. His work included how visual images have been used in history to shape geographical imaginations and in connection between geography as a formal discipline, imaginative expressions of geographical knowledge and experience in the visual arts (including cartography).

Denis Wood: an artist, author, cartographer and a former professor of Design at North Carolina State University. Born in 1945, Wood grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, receiving a BA in English (in 1967) from then Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University). He received an MA (in 1971) and a PhD (in 1973) in geography from Clark University, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Wood taught environmental psychology, landscape history, and design in then School of Design (now College of Design) at North Carolina State University from 1974 through 1996. In 1992 he curated The Power of Maps exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design in New York, which he remounted in 1994 at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.

He was born in Saint-Norbert, Quebec in Berthier County and became a physician.He was first elected to Parliament at the St. Denis riding in the 1921 general election then re-elected in 1925, 1926 and 1930. Azellus Denis: was a Canadian politician who served in the Parliament of Canada as a Member of Parliament and Senator for the longest period of time, 55 years, 10 months and 20 days. He was first elected as a Liberal Member of Parliament in the riding of St. Denis in 1935. His brother Arthur had represented the St. Denis riding in the House of Commons until his death in 1934. Denis was re-elected in 1940, 1945, 1949, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1962, and 1963. He was the Postmaster General from 1963 until the Post Office patronage scandal of 1964. In the midst of the scandal, he was appointed to the Senate at the recommendation of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and served until his death in 1991.
