Among his other works are Childe Harold (1812-1818), The Prisoner of Chillon (1816), and the epic satire Don Juan (1819-1824). Byron was notorious for his love affairs and unconventional lifestyle. He died while working to secure Greek independence from the Turks.

She was elected to Congress in a special election held May 27, 1941 to replace her husband, Representative William D. Byron, after his death in an airplane crash in Georgia on February 27, 1941. She was not a candidate for reelection and retired in Washington, D.C., where she died. She is interred in Riverview Cemetery of Williamsport, Maryland.
