Arthur H. Pitney: was an American inventor best known as the father of the postage meter.Postage meters are used today by millions of businesses to imprint postage on envelopes and parcels. Meter indicia serve as proof of payment, functioning as a postage stamp, a cancellation mark, and a dated postmark all in one.Pitney filed a patent application, in Stamford, Connecticut for the world’s first postage meter on Dec. 9, 1901. He presented, demonstrated and perfected his invention over two decades – but it was not until he partnered with English-born industrialist Walter Bowes that the postage meter was approved by the U.S. Postal Service.

Arthur Middleton Young: was an American inventor, helicopter pioneer, cosmologist, philosopher and author. Young was the designer of Bell Helicopter's first helicopter, the Model 30, and inventor of the stabilizer bar used on many of Bell's early helicopter designs. He founded the "Institute for the Study of Consciousness" in Berkeley in 1972. Young advocated a process theory, which is a form of integral theory. These theories attempt to integrate the realm of human thought and experience with the realm of science so that the concept of universe is not limited to that which can be physically measured. Young's theory embraces evolution and the concept of the great chain of being. He has influenced such thinkers as Stanislav Grof.

Arthur Garfield Dove: was an American artist. An early American modernist, he was one of America's first abstract painters.Dove used a wide range of media, sometimes in unconventional combinations. Dove did a series of experimental collage works in the 1920s. He also experimented with techniques, combining paints like hand mixed oil or tempera over a wax emulsion. The pigments from the paint then bond to the wax molecules. Dove produced a group of collages and assemblages because it was cheaper than paint and lack of work space.[1] Phillips tells Dove to abandon collage and return to paint.[3] In 1937 Phillips purchased “Goin Fishin” for $2,000.00, the largest sum paid to that date for any of Doves work.[1] Phillips also purchased “Huntington Harbor 1.”[6] Dove produced about twenty-five assemblages between 1924 and 1930.[2

Arthur Beecher Carles: was an American Modernist painter.He returned to France from June to October 1912 and exhibited at the 1912 Salon d'Automne. After his return to America he exhibited at the Armory Show of 1913. He taught at the Pennsylvania Academy in Philadelphia from 1917 to 1925 and taught privately afterwards. His later years were marked by bouts of alcoholism. In December 1941 he suffered a stroke that left him an invalid until his death in 1952.
