Wells was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party.He was first elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1963 provincial election, winning a comfortable victory in Scarborough North. Wells served as a backbencher for three years, and was named a minister without portfolio on November 24, 1966. He was re-elected with a reduced majority in the 1967 election, defeating New Democratic Party candidate John Brewin by 1,527 votes.

Thomas Dickson Archibald: was a Canadian businessman and politician. In 1854 he was appointed to a seat on the Legislative Council of Nova Scotia, upon the recommendation of William Young. He retained this position until Canadian Confederation in 1867. On 23 October 1867, he was appointed to the Canadian Senate by royal proclamation, where he sat as a Liberal-Conservative representing the senatorial division of North Sydney until his death.

She was also the first African American woman to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
