Maurice Stokes: was a professional basketball player in the 1950s, whose career was cut short by a debilitating injury.Playing for the National Basketball Association's Rochester Royals (which became the Cincinnati Royals in 1957) from 1955 to 1958, Stokes grabbed 38 rebounds in a single game during his rookie season, averaged 16.3 rebounds per game overall, and was named NBA Rookie of the Year. The next season, he set a league record for most rebounds in a single season with 1,256 (17.4 per game). Stokes played in the NBA All-Star Game all three years of his career, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team three times. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in September 2004.

Maurice Riel: is a former lawyer and Canadian Senator.A distant relative of Louis Riel, Maurice Riel studied law and was admitted to the bar of Quebec in 1945. Establishing his own law firm in Montreal, Riel worked in international law with a number of clients in France. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1958, and served as chairman of the Metropolitan Montreal Corporation from 1965 to 1969. He served on the board of the Bank of Canada from 1969 to 1963.Riel joined the Liberal Party of Canada in 1947, and served in various capacities with the party. He was appointed to the Senate on the advice of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1973 , and worked on immigration policy and foreign affairs amongst other issues. He was appointed Speaker of the Canadian Senate on December 16, 1983, but served for less than a year in that position due to the Progressive Conservative Party's victory in the 1984 general election. He was replaced as Speaker by Progressive Conservative Guy Charbonneau.

Richard Maurice: was a pioneering filmmaker of African descent during the silent era.Richard Danal Maurice was born in Matanzas, Cuba on June 14, 1893.[1] In 1903, Maurice immigrated to the United States.[2] He lived in Detroit, where he owned and operated a tailor's shop.[3]In July 1920, he founded the Maurice Film Company in Detroit. It released two feature films, made almost ten years apart. Nobody's Children, the company's first feature, premiered at E.B. Dudley's Vaudette Theatre in Detroit on Monday, September 27, 1920 and played widely within the eastern United States.[4]
