Jackson was elected for the riding of Burlington South in the provincial election of 1985, defeating Liberal candidate Doug Redfearn by about 4,500 votes. He was a backbench supporter of the government of Frank Miller, which was defeated in the legislature shortly after the election. In late 1985, Jackson supported Alan Pope's unsuccessful bid to replace Miller as party leader. Jackson was nearly defeated in the provincial election of 1987, defeating Liberal Bill Priestner by 605 votes. He won by a much greater margin in the 1990 election. The Tories finished in third place in both instances, behind the Liberals and the New Democratic Party.

Sir Douglas Colin Cameron: was a Canadian politician. He served in the Ontario legislature from 1902 to 1905, and was the eighth Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1911 to 1916. He would later serve as the city's mayor. In 1902, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal for the riding of Fort William and Lake of the Woods, defeating Conservative Thomas Smellie, 1483 votes to 1121. Cameron sat as a backbench supporter of Premier George Ross for the next three years. Cameron stood as a Liberal candidate for Winnipeg in the 1908 federal election, but lost to Conservative Alexander Haggart by 8747 votes to 6729.

In 1872, he was named Queen's Counsel. He practised law in Toronto. Cameron was an unsuccessful candidate for the House of Commons in 1867, 1872, 1874 and a subsequent by-election held in 1874. The election of James Maclennan in 1874 was overturned and Cameron was declared elected in 1875. He was elected again in 1878 and 1882 but defeated by John Augustus Barron when he ran for reelection in 1887. Cameron was a director of the Huron and Quebec Railway. He died in Cobourg at the age of 64.

Cameron was re-elected at High Park for a second term in the 1953, but defeated in the 1957 election by John Kucherepa of the Progressive Conservative party.

Cameron served as deputy reeve in 1879 and reeve from 1881 to 1883 for Strathroy and was warden for Middlesex County in 1883. He was also a member of the local school board. Cameron was elected in an 1883 by-election held after the election of George William Ross was declared invalid. He was defeated by William Frederick Roome when he ran for reelection in 1887.
