Alma Woodsey Thomas: was an African American color field painter and art educator.Thomas moved to Washington, D.C., with her family in 1907. In 1924, she became the first graduate of the Howard University art department. She was the first African American ever to receive a bachelor's degree in the fine arts and, in 1934, became the first African American woman to gain a master's degree in art from Columbia University. She was also the first African American woman to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her early art was realistic, but delved into abstraction influenced by the work of her professors Lois Mailou Jones and James V. Herring.

Alma Ruth Lavenson: was a leading American photographer of the first half of the 20th century. She worked and was close friends with Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston and other photographic masters of the period.Lavenson apparently decided to become a photographer on her own after enrolling at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1915. She learned to develop and print her negatives by watching a technician at an Oakland drugstore in the early 1920s.[1] In her early work she concentrated the geometric forms of structures and their placement in the landscape.

Alma Victor "Champ" Hunt: was a Bermudian and Scottish cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. Hunt started his career playing in his native Bermuda, and scored his first century in an organised game at the age of 10. Considered one of the finest cricketers Bermuda has ever produced, he was selected to take part in trials for the West Indian cricket team in 1933. He played one first-class match for GC Grant's XI as part of the trials, but was not selected when doubts were raised about his eligibility. The following year, he moved to Scotland to play as a professional with Aberdeenshire. He later played twice for Scotland in 1938 against Australia and Yorkshire. The game against Yorkshire was his second and final first-class appearance. He moved back to Bermuda, and became heavily involved with administration of cricket on the island. As Bermuda's delegate to the International Cricket Council, it was Hunt who first proposed the ICC Trophy competition, which was first played in 1979 and still serves as a qualifier for the Cricket World Cup.
