James Ajibola Ige: simply known as Bola Ige was a Nigerian and prominent Yoruba politician. He was born in Esa-Oke village, now in Osun State.He became a prominent attorney in Nigeria and achieved fame as a civil rights and democracy activist. Ige served as governor of Oyo State from October 1979 to October 1983, shortly before the 1983 coup. Following the restoration of democracy in 1999, Ige continued to be politically prominent, and was appointed justice minister and attorney-general of Nigeria in 2000. He served in the latter position until his death: he was gunned down in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He wrote several books. After his death, an anthology of articles and tributes about him was published.
