Derrick Joseph Chievous: is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Houston Rockets in the 1st round (16th overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft.Chievous played in the NBA from 1988-1991 for the Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers. His best season came during his rookie campaign as a member of the Rockets, when he appeared in 81 games and averaged 9.3 ppg. He played collegiately at the University of Missouri. He also played for Greek team Dafni between 1994-1996.

The 6' 4", 181-lb. point guard rose to prominence while playing college basketball for coach Dean Smith at the University of North Carolina. Phelps was never drafted by an NBA team, but did play in three games for the Sacramento Kings in the 1994/95 season.[1] The Vancouver Grizzlies selected him in the 1995 expansion draft, but he did not play for them before they renounced his NBA rights in 1996. He has also spent some time during pre-season (but not in any NBA games) with the Milwaukee Bucks (1994) and Philadelphia 76ers (1997). In 2006/07 season he played in the Russian Basketball Super League for Spartak Primorie Vladivostok.

He attended the University of Alabama for three years, leading the Tide to a regional No. 1 seed in 1986-87 and to the Sweet 16 (where they were eliminated by Providence).
